Brasserie Harkema opened the doors to The Annex on 8 February 2007. The Annex consists of three exclusive, elegant dining rooms, which are suitable for a wide range of private or business events: from wedding parties to product presentations, from meetings to receptions or birthday dinners. The combination of ambiance and exclusivity, as found in this central Amsterdam rendezvous, is truly the strength of the Annex.

The Dining Rooms

The board of directors of the former tobacco merchant, Harkema, used to have their meetings in the three stylish Annex rooms. The characteristic style of the Amsterdam School is pervasive in the rooms’ interior architecture. All the elements as designed by the original architects, the Van Gendt brothers, have been left intact. The original character has been augmented with a stylish new interior, furnishings and lighting.

The Annex provides dining facilities for groups of 12 to 104 guests. The rooms are named after characteristic, historic elements. The Room with the Safe accommodates 64 guests and is the largest of the three rooms. In The Room with the Closet, 26 guests can be accommodated and in The Small Room, 14 guests.

When used in conjunction, the moveable partition walls between the rooms are slid open. The view through the rooms across the original wooden panelling lends the rooms a feeling of unity, yet at the same time, a feeling of intimacy.

Whenever guests wish to use just one or several of the rooms, the soundproofed partition walls are slid shut. The rooms can, of course, be used in succession by the same guests, for example, a reception in the one room preceding a lunch or dinner in another.

The Annex is equipped with all the modern audiovisual facilities that businesses might require, such as internet access and overhead projectors. The furniture can be arranged to meet the exact requirements of each occasion or event.

The rooms are accessible via a separate entrance on the St. Barberenstraat, or if so desired, via Brasserie Harkema's bar where guests can be greeted in advance with an aperitif.
