Open meeting place for the contemporary cosmopolitan
Brasserie Harkema is situated in a former factory building in the historical inner city of Amsterdam. The establishment combines the functions of the bar and brasserie into one large, open area. The functional arrangement of these areas lends a feel of intimacy and liveliness. In addition, Brasserie Harkema has three separate rooms for private dining, De Annex.
Brasserie Harkema offers quality without the pretence. This means that Brasserie Harkema aims at basic qualities in terms of service, interior and atmosphere. Many natural materials are incorporated into the interior design, the meals are simple yet of a high quality and affordable and the atmosphere stimulates social contact.
The menu at Brasserie Harkema has numerous typical, recognizable European brasserie dishes: incorporating above all respect, simplicity and quality for an affordable price. Classic dishes - with here and there a contemporary twist - that are just simply delicious and that you would want to taste every week.
The open kitchen is an impressive element within the restaurant. You can see the chefs, pots and pans, steam and fire.
The menu is changed every three months.
The Nes was formerly the tobacco centre of Amsterdam. Many former tobacco buildings are currently in use as theatres.
The former tobacco wholesaler 'Harkema' used this building as an office and warehouse. During the rebuilding the original, characteristic details of the building were kept intact or restored. Most noteable is the saw-tooth roof with northern light: the soft and indirect light lent itself to the process of tabacco leaf selection. The ceiling with its wonderful lighting gives Brasserie Harkema a personal atmosphere: contemporary and timeless, durable and comfortable, cosmopolitan and cozy.
The building of the restaurant was PRAST (Herman Prast) in collaboration with Ronald Hooft. |
