Brasserie Harkema
Brasserie Harkema is a modern version of the classic, Parisian brasserie, where a magnificent location, a stunning interior and delicious, affordable dining fuse.
The brasserie opened to the public on 10th October 2003, behind the Rokin in Amsterdam, and was a great success from day one.
The Rendezvous
Since the opening in 2003, many varied and enthousiastic patrons have found their way to the brasserie.
The large, open space with seating for 228 persons, the styleful interior and the lively atmosphere encourages social contact. Groups can reserve the entresol for a more intimate surrounding.

Good, honest dining in a modern, cosmopolitan surrounding has already earned Brasserie Harkema the reputation of a 'contemporary classic', not only in The Netherlands, but also overseas.
The Menu
Brasserie Harkema is a daytime and evening restaurant, where quality is tantamount.
During the day, shoppers and local workers can choose from a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, soups, a limited number of main courses and home-made pastries.
In the evening, the kitchen focusses on simple, classic recipes - often with a contemporary twist - using only the freshest ingredients. Most of the starters and desserts on the European-style menu range from €5 to €8, and main courses from €13 to €19.
The menu changes with the season. Furthermore, there is an extensive and surprising wine menu. A unique point is the advice given in the form of a matrix for all combinations of wines and dishes on the menu
lunch from noon until 4 p.m. (Monday to Sunday)
dinner from 5.30 p.m. until 11 p.m. (Monday to Sunday)
The Architecture
The brasserie is named after the tobacco merchant that was situated in the characteristc building until early 2001.
Architects, Herman Prast and Ronald Hooft set a spectacular window into the façade of the building and aimed at creating an 'industrial' look and feel. In the large dining area, they created a floor plan on split levels and worked with light panels set into the roof.
A transparent, metal curtain separates the bar - with soft lighting and designer stools - from the dining area. The wall lining the large, open kitchen, with its rectangular slots serves as a gigantic wine rack. Opposite, the 'rainbow' can hardly be missed.
The glass entresol offers a view out across the whole dining area. Mainly sober, natural materials have been used for the interior.

The straight lines of the dark, wooden chairs and floor form a stark contrast with the white tables and metallic elements. The modest, cosmopolitan design has earnt Brasserie Harkema much acclaim nationally and internationally.
